Here I will show you how to add the magnetic base and shroud to your Legacy K2CNC AirExchanger.

Please be aware that once you have made this conversion, you will not be able to use the legacy shrouds.  You must use a magnetic shroud.

Components

You will need the following components to complete this conversion:

Instructions

Step 1

The magnetic base is used to allow you to attach magnetic shrouds to the various AirExchangers.

If you are going to paint your magnetic base, you need to do it before proceding with the assembly.

Here I painted mine with two coats of black acrylic paint. I did a light sanding with a fine sanding sponge between the two coats.

Step 2

Place each of the included magnets in the large holes and tap in place with a plastic or wood mallet.

You need to push them in place so that they are flush with the top surface.

Important!!!

When pounded flush, the magnets will be slightly recessed on the reverse side of the base. This is important as it provides a place for the contacts on the dust shoe to make a positive contact.

Step 3

The magnetic base must be installed on the bottom of the AirExchanger. It is possible to install the base without complete disassembly.

Start by removing the front portion of the mount. This is done by removing the center retaining nut and spacer and unscrewing the clamp screws.

Step 4

Remove the six nuts and washers holding the rear portion of the mount.

Step 5

Remove the six screws and let the small spacers fall out. Set the rear mount aside for now.

Step 6

Add the six screws back, but reverse them as shown. Finger tight only, just enough to hold the plate.

Step 7

Remove one of the remaining screws. Set the lock washer aside and reverse the screw and add the nut.

Do this for each of the remaining screws leaving the center screw as the last.

Important!!!

When doing the center screw it is important to hold the top and bottom base together to keep the round spacers in place while you reverse the screw.

Step 8

Flip the AirExchanger over so that the heads are pointing down and set on a flat surface.

Remove all the nuts.

Step 9

Remove the base.

Step 10

Remove a large spacer from each stack.

Step 11

Add all the small spacers back, creating two stacks. Remove one spacer from each stack.

Step 12

Remove one of the small round spacers from the center.

Step 13

Place the base back on the screws as shown.

Step 14

Place the magnetic base on the screws as shown.

Important !!

Make sure the flush side of the magnets are facing the AirExchanger and the recessed side is facing up.

Replace all the nuts and finger tighten only.

Step 15

Reverse the six rear screws one at a time. replace the nuts only and finger tighten. You will be adding the mount later.

Step 16

Reverse each of the remaining screws one at a time. Be sure to add the lock washer back. Finger tighten only.

Important!!!

When doing the center screw it is important to hold the top and bottom base together to keep the round spacers in place while you reverse the screw.

Step 17

Remove the six notes from the rear as shown.

Step 18

Add the rear mount to the screws and add a lock washer and nut. Finger tighten only.

Step 19

Add the front portion of the mount by inserting it over the center screw and securing with the clamp screws. Add the plastic retainer, lock washer, and nut to the center screw.

Keep these loose as you will need to tighten them once the AirExchanger is attached to your router.

Tighten all the screws.

Important !!

Don't over tighten, you will crack the acrylic. Just snug them up.

Step 7

Thats It! Your K2CNC AirExchanger now supports magnetic shrouds.

Install it on your CNC as you did earlier and simply snap the shroud in place.
