A 1.5" piece of angle is added to each side to act as a slat support. Note the 1/4" standoffs used to hold the slats in-place.
A center support is also added.
The standoffs on the center support are offset by 1" to allow me to flex the slats.
The flex does two things:
1. The flex keeps the slats from moving which can affect the cut quality.
2. Keeps the slats from interfering with strait cuts.
I used this slat system with other builds and it has served me well.
The slats are easily replaceable and don't interfere with the modular tables.
